Incredible Facilities, in Amazing Surroundings-The BEST way to see Lake Tanganyika

Flying Safari

Between June and December Lake Shore Lodge will offer a brand new FLYING SAFARI circuit for South Western Tanzania.  For the duration of your trip, the plane will be based at Lake Shore Lodge, then from here, you will have a day flight to Mahale Mountains National Park to see the chimps and another day flight to Katavi National Park to do a full days game drive.  The rest of your stay will be here at Lake Shore, keeping busy with any of our activities, or simply relaxing in a hammock with your book.

Day 1 (Friday or Saturday) – Fly with Auric Air from Dar es Salaam to Iringa departing Dar at 07h00 and arriving in Iringa at 08h30. Change planes to fly from Iringa to Kipili in a cessna 210. Flying time is 1h50min. You are met at the Kipili airstrip and drive 5km to Lake Shore Lodge arriving in time for lunch.  Relax in your Chalet in the afternoon and enjoy dinner on the beach under the stars at the water’s edge.

Day 2 – After breakfast we head off to one of the islands in front of Lake Shore for a morning of snorkeling to see the endemic cichlids of Lake Tanganyika.  Overnight in your Chalet.

Day 3 – Explore Lake Tanganyika on one of our kayaks.  Overnight at Lake Shore in your Chalet.

Day 4 – Leave the Lodge at sunrise to get onto the plane and fly 25min to Katavi National Park.  You are met by Juma who will take you on a day’s game drive.  Katavi is the third largest National Park in Tanzania yet has the same number of guests in a year that the Serengeti gets in a day in peak season.  The park is truly wild and completely unspoilt.  Return to Kipili in the late afternoon and overnight in your Chalet.

Day 5 – Take a walk up to the old Kipili Monastery, one of the oldest churches in Tanzania.  It is now a ruin and stands on the hill 500m from Lake Shore.  The views down to the islands and the Lake are well worth the short walk.  Relax in your hammock in the afternoon or have a massage or a jaccuzzi (not included).

Day 6 – We set off early for Mahale.  The flying time from Kipili to Mahale is 45min.  You are met by the TANAPA Rangers who will take you by boat to where the chimp trekking starts.  The Ranger will show you the way and will hike with you through the rainforest until you find the chimps.  You will spend an hour with the chimps and then start your hike back to the boat so that you can head back to the airstrip for your flight back to Kipili.

Day 7 – Today is the last day at Lake Shore.  In the evening we will go out for a sunset cruise around the islands.

Day 8 (Friday or Saturday) – After a leisurely breakfast we drive you to the Kipili airstrip for your flight from Kipili to Iringa.  You will then change planes and fly from Iringa to Dar es Salaam with Auric Air departing Iringa at 16h00 and arriving in Dar at 17h30.

The plane at your service is a Cessna 210.
